Growing up as a child my mom always cooked fresh homemade
meals. It was rare when my father took us out to eat to a fast food or restaurant,
but then again there were eight of us I have four older brothers and two older
sisters. So I can see why it was hard for my parents to take us out to eat. Basically
my mom was the “house wife” and my dad was the one that worked. But I do
remember a couple occasions when it was me and my sister the one closest to my
age. When my father would pick us up from cheerleading practice or we would basically
be alone with him or my mom he would say “you girls want to go get some ice
cream or a cheese burger?” we of course would say “yes!, ice-cream” and we
would go to baskin and robins and we would both get double scoop with lots of
chocolate fug and sprinkles’. I was the happiest little girl. When we get back in the car my dad would tell
my sister and I “don’t tell your brothers “we of course wouldn’t but we would
tease them and say “I got something and you didn’t”.
Now my habits
of eating are not too bad. I have two
children and I am twenty four years of age so I try to watch what I eat; as
well as for my children. Since my mom always cooked at home and made fresh
home-made meals I do the same now I make time and effort to make healthy
home-made meals. I give my children vegetables everyday for dinner or lunch I always
serve them salad first before giving them the actual meal. I try to always make
my meals fresh. When I mean fresh I have a garden in my back yard so I grow fresh
tomatoes cucumbers and also we have a lemon tree and my neighbors have an
orange tree so we always have fresh orange juice in the morning. So how I picked
up from my mother I’m sure my children will do the same from me they all ready help me plant tomatoes or help
me in the kitchen.
The only
time I do not cook is Fridays and Sundays. Fridays is movie night with my little
family we ask our kids what they are craving either pizza or cheeseburgers or
anything that has to do with Fast food. So u can imagine Fridays is my children’s
best day! On Sundays my husband likes to takes us to a restaurant so that day
my husband and I get to choose. Over all I’m glad and satisfied how I am
teaching my kids it is important to eat healthy because there are many children
that are very unhealthy and diabetic. I tell my children that their some people
that rely on fast food and then get very sick. I know at times my children look
at me and think I’m crazy for feeding them vegetables and salads and not buying
them happy meals but I’m sure they will thank me later.
